Quebec City, QC

Quebec City today.  When I selected this campground I thought it was equal distance between Quebec City and Montreal; however I’m about 2 hours southeast of Quebec City.  It turned out to be a long day …. Exactly 12 hours from start to return.  And a hotter day than I have seen so far this week …

First stop was the Aquarium du Quebec.  Frankly, I could have skipped this stop.  Between the kids and strollers, you couldn’t move in the indoor exhibits.  The ocean fish displays were trout, walleye, salmon, cod, pike …. Nothing that wasn’t “everyday” fish.  I did enjoy the jellyfish display tanks.  I love to watch jellyfish; I find them so relaxing to watch.  In the outdoor exhibits there was a walrus, 2 seals, an owl, a fox …. Definitely not worth the price of admission.  There were some fun sand sculptures however ...

I stopped at the Montmorency Falls Park (Parc de la Chute-Montmorency).  Higher, but narrower, than Niagara Falls, it was still pretty impressive.

You had two options to get from the top to the bottom (and visa-versa) of the falls …. The gondola or the stairs.  Any doubt which option I choose???

The suspension bridge across of the top gave you a “spray” view of the falls.  Ha.

Driving into downtown Quebec proved to be a challenge.  I had hoped to see Dufferin Terrace and have lunch at Restaurant Aux Anciens Canadiens but the mass of humanity prevented any sightseeing.  I think I will look into an on/off bus or public transportation the next time.  I did see some sightseeing buses, so that could be an option as well.

I also tried twice to see the Ice Hotel without success.  The structure is made entirely of ice and snow and has a different theme each year.

I stopped at a restaurant for pizza.  Canadian pizza is different; I’ve had it twice and it was the same both times. Their pepperoni is very different.  It is more like slices of salami than the small pepperoni pieces we have at home.  Also, the cheese (which is not mozzarella) is put on last, so all the toppings are under the cheese.  It is good and the cheese does keep everything in place.

Driving through the neighborhoods of Quebec made me think of pictures I’ve seen of New Orleans.  Must be the French influence.
