I left Granby about 9am this morning. I did not have any issues getting out of my campsite .... thank goodness. I did ask the family across from me to watch the tree and my "swing out" as I pulled out, but they misunderstood and moved their vehicles.
A gentleman a couple of sites down came up to talk to me while I was hooking up the Jeep. He spoke perfect English! It turns out he was in the Navy, a chef, and prepared the meals for Prince Albert for about 6 months while he was on a world cruise. After the Navy, he earned his living as a truck driver, both in the US and Canada. He said it was too hard to stand in one place so he didn't want to be a chef full time. When I told him the other couple was going to Florida for the winter, he said half of Quebec goes to Florida for the winter! It should be fun when I get there.
It took me about an hour to get to the Flying J and fill my tank. It was a little challenging as it was all in French and the DEF was in bottles by the store door. I got it sorted out and was on the road again by 10am.
You take the Transcanadian Highway 20 up past Quebec City, but then you drive Highway 132 the entire rest of the way. It is a coastal road ... one lane each way and no divider .... but a nice road with fabulous scenery. It also has some 9% down grades, just to keep it interesting. There were several turn-offs for "tourist" roads, and I would have dearly loved to take them and explore the towns and the coast up close, but was afraid I would have an issue with my height and length, so I kept to the highway.
As planned, I got to the Walmart in Matane, QC about 5pm. I thought about driving on for a couple more hours, but there are several RVs here for the night (safety in numbers) and there is free WiFi in the parking lot, hence I'm able to post some of my travels. After I parked, I headed into the store to see what I could see that was different from the Walmart we have in the US and they were closed .... they close at 5pm on Saturday. Wow.
Well, now that you are up-to-date, I think I will look at my 378 emails and then plan tomorrow's adventure.
