The Haines Highway

This highway runs from Haines Junction, Yukon south to Haines, Alaska; an excellent road (until you get to the US end).  It was the nicest highway I have driven in a long time.  The views were outstanding.  The border crossing was simple and smooth ...

One of the "rumors" you hear about coming to Alaska in the summer is the crowds.  With few exceptions, even in the cities, I have had the road pretty much to myself.  And only a couple of times have I found the campgrounds full .... the holiday and Denali being the exceptions.

I stopped at Kathleen Lake to eat dinner.  It took awhile to find a turnout to spend the night as most were posted no overnight parking.

I'm not sure when it happened, but I realized tonight that it actually got dark!  No more midnight sun.  I miss it. I really like the long daylight hours.  Here is a sunset.
